Purpose statement
The purpose of the TKC is to monitor, consider and advise on developments relating to indigenous knowledge and ensure that there are meaningful developments in law and policy, report to the SAIIPL members on cases dealing with traditional knowledge where relevant and provide mentoring to and advise SAIIPL students of indigenous law developments.
Goals
- To review the current Indigenous Knowledge Act to consider and propose necessary amendments to update legislation and thereby ensuring the protection of indigenous intellectual property rights
- To review the regulations, comment on same and commence a process of having the IKS implemented
